I dedicate this song to my fellow criminals (and there are many) who have been caught speeding at Ballinluig on the A9.

It was a cold November night with the stars shining bright
I was heading home from Dufftown from a gig
The A9 was deserted, so my throttle I exerted
The radio was blaring out Runrig
It was late and I was tired, and in truth my mind conspired
To slow down but my car just wouldn’t do it
I was doing over 60, past a sign displaying 50
And got dazzled by the lights of Ballinluig

Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, they’ll only give you grief and bring you pain
Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, I hope I never see your like again

I got a summons to report, to the county sheriff court
Or a sixty pound fine through the post to pay
And added to that penalty, to further my humility
My licence had three points now on display

Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, they’ll only give you grief and bring you pain
Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, I hope I never see your like again

It’s a few years since the time I was guilty of that crime
And I’d like to say my copy book’s blot free
Though I’ve driven past there now and then and seen those bright lights shine again
In truth they were not shining down on me

Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, they’ll only give you grief and bring you pain
Oh the bright lights of Ballinluig, I hope I never see your like again
No I never want to see your like again
