I’ve lived in the shade of the Sidlaw Hills for over a quarter of a century. With my family I’ve enjoyed many lovely and happy walks on them, and have come to know them so well. I felt they deserved a song.
In Sidlaw’s sleepy shade I live, and hope I always will
And wander o’er her tops and feel, once again the thrill
Of nature’s bonny flaunting face, smiling day by day
In Sidlaw’s shade I’ll ever be, it’s here I want to stay.
I see them when the sun comes up and sets on them each night
My eyes are never weary of this truly wondrous sight
Fresh greens of spring through autumn golds and other shades forby
The beauty of the Sidlaw Hills, are with me till I die
Chorus
The north side gazes softly on the valley of Strathmore
And south the sweeping Braes of Carse unroll to meet Tay’s shore
Where wild geese feed among its reeds then fly back once again
Across Craigowl to Lundie Crags and haunting Dunsinane
The hamlets that the hills embrace are tucked away from sight
But twinkle in the Angus sky to decorate the night
Crumbling ruins time forgot, wild deer running free
And so much more, come take my hand and share these things with me
Chorus
