When my son Bob graduated he had difficulty finding a job locally and was looking further afield, so the thought of him leaving home prompted me to write this song.
You’re leaving today, there’s no more to say
The wide world is calling you, and you’re ready to go
I hope life treats you gently, I hope life treats you kind
I don’t want you to go, but, you must leave me behind.
I wish that your joys be many and I wish that your sorrows be few
I wish you an unfulfilled dream and many accomplished ones too
For something that’s just out of reach will foster that hunger inside
So achievement and challenge can both ebb and flow with the tide
Oh where have the years, all disappeared to
And where has that little boy gone, he’s disappeared too
But I’m proud of the man, that you’ve turned into
And no matter what you do in life, I hope that you’ll always be you
I wish that your joys be many and I wish that your sorrows be few
I wish you an unfulfilled dream and many accomplished ones too
For something that’s just out of reach will foster that hunger inside
So achievement and challenge can both ebb and flow with the tide
For something that’s just out of reach will foster that hunger inside
So achievement and challenge can both ebb and flow with the tide
