In the summer of 2000 I had to cancel a tour of Ontario through illness.  One of the hosts from Ontario had commissioned for me a beautiful lead and glass angel playing the bagpipes, and challenged me to write a song about it.  Here it is.

From the moment you are born and until you breathe your last
A certain person’s watching over you
She will catch you when you fall, and answer when you call
And is always there to help to guide you through.

She’s the one you can rely on when the rest all let you down
She’s the one who’ll always be there come what may
When the sun begins to fade, casting shadows, making shade
Your guardian angel will be with you night and day.

She’s an angel, my guardian angel, who plays the harp and dances when she sings
She’s a beauty to behold, in her dress of green and gold
A shining halo and a pair of silver wings.

When sadness knocks upon your door and darkness tries to enter in
And fairweather friends just do not understand
She won’t turn her back on you, but instead will see you through
All your troubles with her love and helping hand.

When someone puts you on a pedestal then promptly knocks you down
And fills your hopeful mind with empty dreams
The words you wanted to believe were intended to deceive
Then your wishes weren’t quite what they had seemed.

She’s an angel, my guardian angel, who plays the harp and dances when she sings
She’s a beauty to behold, in her dress of green and gold
A shining halo and a pair of silver wings.
